Earth Tone Beaded Tote

Love this tote! All earth tones, fringed in gold, beading, lined with cotton and pockets. Made it a couple of years ago....couldn't figure out who it should go to. Finally gave it a home with a friend of Frona's...thought she might like it. I think it originally had long handles, but I found them gangly and annoying, so cut them down to handles. Seems to work better.

Watercolour 2010

Watercolour, throw quilt. Made with graduated colour squares for the centre , surrounded by numerous squares of all sizes. For Aleia Militsala's Grad ( Edmonton). Really liked doing the border.....kind of cathartic to work with little squares of fabric. Loved stiching the quilt pattern.....worked it from the reverse side, so made it easier.....freestyle.

Indian Messenger Bag

Indian design Messenger bag....Made it a little smaller than the larger version. Will till hold everything, including the kitchen sink and a laptop, only neater. Used design from an Indian tunic as the front flap and added beading, etc.
Long straps make it comfortable to sling on opposite shoulder.

Xmas in May....Why not?

First large quilt...1993.....Christmas sampler. Made it in a class in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Took about 3 months, and was fun to do, but I had no idea what I was doing. Oh well, I am really glad that I got it finished.

Boston Commons 1995

This is a Sideways Trip Around the World. This is a throw quilt size...very useful. Coloured fabric is cut into strips, then sewn together and then cut into squared pieces. Made it for a good friend, when she had her second son. I've since lost touch with her, but I hope that when she sees it that she sometimes thinks of me. When you give away something handmade it's like giving away a piece of yourself, except that you don't lose anything and gain tenfold.........

Antiqued wedding bags

Who doesn't love a wedding? These little bags are lined with cotton, with the outside consisting of satin or silk, with drawstrings, adorned with froo-froos such as pearls and fancy laces. Easy to do, actually. I just cut the size fabric for the outside and the lining( eyeballed, not measured, no pattern)....because it's more fun to guess how you want it to look. Makes it much more of a challenge....you have no idea how it will look in the end. It is preferable to make them all different. The drawstring is sewn between the lining and the outside fabric, and tied off on the ends. Beading is added at the very end.

Autumn in May

These are brown/gold pointsettias.....I think they are so cool.......ringed the quilt with gold beads. I was making it for a friend, but liked it so much decided to keep it.....naughty me...had to make something else instead.....
Triangles are from the Flying Geese pattern.....get it: fall/geese....clever.

Elvis Lives in a Log Cabin

Log Cabin Totes.....if you look close enough you can see the face of Elvis peeking out from the log bars.....you know your famous when your face appears on fabric.

Reverse log cabin......light fabric in the centre. Totes are all fully lined, with two inner pockets.

And there's the King himself.........all shook up.

Log cabin starts with small square, and rectangles build around the square.

Light fabric opposite darker.

Bagged

Fringed and beaded pouch purses....made for a birthday present. These are lined with cotton. Such a simple pattern....can make any size. Not filled with batting, because then they become bulky. Just fairly stiff lining. No pattern required. Go crazy with fabric pieces and trims. Be creative. Way too much fun.
