Easy Quilt (part 1)

So, where to begin....fabric.This quilt is going to be a mix. One side will be light, another will be darker. The light side will be tea dyed after it is sewn together. But if you do not wish to dye it, you can always leave it plain. I'm going to dye mine, nontheless. Will give it an antique look.
So, again, I reiterate....where to start....Go to the fabric store, buy a couple metres(each)  of various pattens, styles....all cotton blend ( can shrink a lot), or poly cotton blend. Check with Fabric Store Quilting Corner if in doubt.Be inventive. Don't limit yourself to just one pattern.  Mix and match.  Do not use tweedy fabrics, or thick weaves, knits, or anything stretchy ( for obvious reasons).
Toddle home and put together stacks of light and some of dark or medium, wash the fabric first, then dry and iron. Ironing is extremely cathartic....the repetitive motion will lull into a sense of  peace and enlightenment. Fabric enlightenment, that is. It is a wonderful state to exist in.
This is what I use. If you use a rotary cutter, you will need a mat. If not, you'll be okay with scissors. I do both. I use a big graded ruler, small ruler, pencil, cardboad, square 6 inch template in plastic. If you do not have a plastic 6 inch template then you will have to make a cardboard one. Pins are optional. They get used eventually.
I love this template. It is so useful. Can be used to make anything up to square at 6 inches. If you don't have this, then you will be making a cardboard square.
Fabric Scissors, Rotary Cutters, Thread. Rotary Cutters.....be VERY careful. I have sliced my fingers on a couple of occasions..So, very often I will use the Fabric Scissors. You can sit and watch T.V. and cut out fabric squares till the cows come home.

    And so it begins........................
